Parent page: Understanding International Football Clubs
Some call it football, and others call it soccer. Whichever side you might be on, one thing is for sure; this is the most popular sport globally. Fans have tremendous bonds with their chosen team, so much so that one can get traumatised over the loss of a game. Of the many football clubs in the world today, here are arguably the top three.
Barcelona is among the most popular football clubs today. It houses great players such as Lionel Messi, a player with a record of six Ballon d’Or titles. There is also Ronaldinho and Andres Iniesta who have played for the same club in the past. Barca was founded in 1899, and since then it has won 74 trophies including 26 La Liga wins, 30 Copa del Rey titles and 13 Supercopa de Espana.
2. Real Madrid
Madrid is a tough rival of Barcelona and another famous global club from Spain. Some fans argue that it is better than Barcelona and so there has always been intense competition between the two teams. Madrid came to life in 1902, and it is currently the football club with the most La Liga wins. Christiano Ronaldo played for Real before he moved to Juventus. The only thing that might make it take the number two spot is that it has 65 trophies, but 33 of these are La Liga titles.
Liverpool is the third most famous club in the world and the best English football club so far. Though the team has had some good and bad days, it still has a firm name among many fans. Liverpool was formed in 1892 and is also known as the Reds. They have won the First Division/Premier League 19 times, 15 Community Shields titles and seven FA Cup wins. The club has the most UEFA Champions League wins from the English side with six trophies and four UEFA Super Cup victories.
