Liverpool Racing Back to Past Glories

Liverpool FC are slowly reclaiming their past glory. They’re reinventing themselves as the gods of football in England and Europe, not to mention that they recently lifted the Club World Cup trophy. But what exactly has propelled the Reds to these heights? And will they maintain this form for years to come?

Liverpool Wins UEFA Champions League and EPL

The Reds have so much history, and after many years of not winning any cup or competition, the world is starting to fear them again. Overturning a three-goal deficit, Liverpool came on the verge of dropping out of the 2019 UEFA Champions League to beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield. This was thanks to some magic from Wijnaldum, the versatile Alexander Arnold, and Kop favourite, Origi. The latter also scored in the finals when the Reds beat Pochettino’s Tottenham 2-0.

Liverpool beat Guardiola’s Manchester City, Chelsea, and others to lift the 2020 EPL trophy. It’s worth noting that the Manchester side finished the 2019 EPL season with 98 points with Liverpool following closely at 97. In 2020, they won the EPL with seven games to go. No one anticipated this, especially with Guardiola and his troops presenting a formidable challenge and playing the best football in Europe.

Liverpool’s success is obviously tied to signing up manager Klopp, and top players, such as Salah, Mane, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, and Allison. Klopp, in particular, is a force to reckon with, judging by history.

Guardiola, Mourinho, Chelsea, and Manchester United Factor

It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp will repeat the same feat, having already been bundled out of the 2020 UCL by the cautiously defensive Atletico Madrid. Chelsea and Manchester United are playing well and are signing the most significant talents, and this may hamper Liverpool from winning the EPL in 2021. Remember that two of the biggest names in football, Guardiola and Mourinho, are at Manchester City and Tottenham respectively. They will do anything to upset Liverpool.
